Tim Tebow's Controversial Super Bowl Spot

Never a dull moment for Tim Tebow. The Heisman Trophy winner is generating some controversy this Super Bowl season for appearing in an anti-abortion, pro-life ad that is going to run on gameday. A bunch of women’s groups have come against the ad by Focus on the Family which they believe is inappropriate for the Super Bowl. The spot, which has not been released as of yet, is believed to revolve around Tim’s mom Pam. Pam came down with a serious illness while on a mission trip in the Philippines and doctors advised her to abort the child she was carrying. Disregarding their advice, Pam gave birth to that child. And…cue dramatic orchestral arrangement…that child was Time Tebow.

For those who don’t agree with Tim’s decision to appear in the 30-second spot, he had this to say:

“I know some people won’t agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe.”

Very diplomatic. And as much as I love Tim and have hopped on the Tebow bandwagon full force, a part of me thinks that political statements aren’t really Super Bowl material. Super Bowl Sunday is one of a select few occasions where thinking really isn’t required. Tim, can’t we all just enjoy some food, booze and football and ignore the important stuff for at least one day.
