ESPN to Launch New 3-D Channel
This could be either the smartest move or the dumbest idea for the worldwide leader in sports. ESPN announced yesterday that it would be launching its 3-D television network in June and would be showing at least 85 live sporting events during the first year. The first broadcast is scheduled to be the June 11th World Cup battle between South Africa and Mexico, with the X Games, BCS Bowl and other events coming down the pipe as well. While details are sketchy at best about how the whole thing is going to work (will special glasses be involved, will sports fans have to purchase an insane amount of equipment, etc.), the idea itself is pretty awesome. Just imagine if the network was able to swing some 3-D Olympic coverage, now that would be off the hinges. And guys, I know the prospect of a 3-D Erin Andrews is probably getting a few of you hot and bothered.
