$1.5 Billion Shelled Out On World’s Tallest Building
Economic ruin can’t dampen spirits in Dubai, especially when they’ve made the rest of the world their architectural b*tch. Yeah, that’s right, I said it. The country recently unveiled its $1.5 billion pet project: a 828 meter high architect’s wet dream called the Burj Khalifa. The tower, which took six years to complete, will house 1,044 luxury apartments, 49 floors of office space and an Armani-branded hotel (snazzy, snazzy!). The tower dwarfs such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and even the Empire State Building (which is only half the size of the Burj Khalifa). However, despite this architectural achievement, the region is still suffering the effects of a crappy economy and its ridunkulous expenditures to finance the creation of this tower and other ambitious building projects isn’t helping matters. And to just sprinkle on a little more hateration, it turns out that the top 30 floors or so are generally useless for anything other than storage space because they are so small and narrow. Weak sauce, Dubai, weak sauce.
