Jersey Shore is Causing Death Threats Over at MTV

I guess some people are really not feeling “Da Situation” over at MTV right now. After Snooki, J-Woww, Da Situation and the rest of MTV’s guidos and guidettes bumped and ground their way into our hearts last week during the premiere of the network’s new reality show “Jersey Shore,” MTV has received an outpouring of angry responses to the show. According to FOXNews, MTV has received angry phone calls, e-mails and even death threats over their new reality show, which follows the drunken, sex-laden antics of eight self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes.

The show attracted controversy early on as national Italian-American groups came out against the show, saying that it relied on stereotypes and portrayed an inaccurate view of Italian-American identity. Andre Dimino, president of UNICO (an Italian-American service organization) had this to say about Jersey Shore‘s cast:

“Their behavior is reprehensible and demeaning in all respects. I don’t see any redeeming value in the show. They are an embarrassment to themselves and to their families.”

“Trash television sells, and they’d be more interested in making money than how they’re offending a great group of people.”

Instead of panning the show, maybe they should take a long hard look at the geniuses who are waving around their Italian heritage right alongside their spray tans, poofs and protein. While Dimino admits that the cast is pretty much a cultural disgrace, can you really blame MTV trying to get their piece of the guido pie?
