Tomorrow’s Chris Brown and Rihanna Interviews – What Will the Fallout Be?

"but never, ever did i beat her TEN times."

So.  Chris Brown’s interview on MTV and Rihanna’s interview on 20/20 will both air tomorrow (Friday), and this thing is looking to be a barnburner, folks.  A short clip of Rihanna’s segment with Diane Sawyer has been released, and it’s pretty damning.  A few of Rihanna’s claims:

  • CORRECTION: You in the comments are right – it is not clear in the clip whether Rihanna is saying she herself was beat eight or nine times.  We’ll see tomorrow, I guess.
  • Rihanna was embarrassed to confide in anyone about the violence because she “didn’t want people to think that’s the kind of person… I fell in love with that person.  It’s humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It’s a traumatizing experience.”
  • Rihanna left Chris because she felt an obligation as a role model to show girls that domestic abuse is never acceptable: “Any girl who is going through domestic violence: Don’t react off of love. F love. To come out of the situation and look at it third-person and for what it really is, you then make your decision. Because love is so blinding.”

How does Brown plan to address this?  And why Rihanna’s decision to drop these bombs now?  Well…

We have one quote pulled from the Brown interview:

“My thoughts is like, ‘Why did it happen?’, like ‘What was I thinking?’, ‘What is wrong with you?’,” Brown reveals.

But he doesn’t seem to be dwelling on the assault. “My thoughts basically now is just, ‘Ok, How do we get past it?,’” Brown adds. “‘How do you, Chris, go from point A to point B? How do you learn from your mistake, turn it into a positive and help other people with this situation and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be?’”

Chris Brown is bad at these things.  His apologies are rambling, hollow, and tone-deaf affairs.  So far, he has sounded like a man wishing his crime away rather than actually trying to come to grips with it.  His self-pitying new song and douchebag antics have not helped.  His tour sales are flagging, and his attempts at contrition – on Larry King, on TMZ – have only served to remind everyone of the beating rather than remind everyone of the Chris Brown who is loving and passionate and capable of mistakes.  He needs to nail this interview.

But whatever he says, Rihanna’s the one people really want to hear from.  I’m not sure why she is choosing to give this interview now, in November.  It could be that she really did try to reconcile with Brown in the months following the February beating and that they’ve only recently truly split.  It could also be that she’s giving him the proverbial repeated punch to the face, hitting back at him right as he’s nearing the launch of his tour and album (not to mention the release of her own album later this month).  If Rihanna claims that Brown attacked her on multiple occasions, I think, that could destroy him.  Maybe he only beat her face black and blue that one time, and never did so before, and completely learned his lesson after.  That seems implausible to me (still).  And I think music buyers will find it much easier to forgive someone who lost his temper and screwed up large once than someone who makes a habit of beating women.  Though I freely admit I don’t like Chris Brown, I think he’s insincere, and I think there are plenty of other R&B singers out there who can do the same things he does without being sh*theads, I also concede that Rihanna’s decision to call off and air the details of the relationship could have been more her publicists’ choice than her heart’s.

    FIRST!

Well…she didn’t really say he beat her 8 or 9 times. Diane Sawyer said it takes 7 different times for a woman to get beaten before she leaves. Rihanna then says, more like 8 or 9. You can take that to mean 8 or 9 in her case, or that the real number is 8 or 9.

I make no excuses for anyone on the wrong side of the law because often times it’s a choice. But if anyone out there can tell me that they have never done anything wrong in their life then I think the badgering should continue against Chris…I think that everyone should focus on the man in the mirror and leave these two alone to work out their own issues..Because the world saw first hand that Chris hand serious issues when the phot was realeased but Rhianna also has an issue because once a woman or a man allows someone to take that first punch, kick, spit…etc and they continue to allow it…They have to find out why? So we owe it to the kids to allow them time to heal and like Chris says, become the people that they want to be…..

She never said they had 8 or 9 incidents. She meant that a woman make take a lot before leaving.

Did she not hit him first? Who’s the real victim?

  5. why

Please can you remove that “Chris Brown
beat Rihanna “eight or nine” times.” That is NOT what she said. Maybe you need to watch that clip again. SMH

you people really need to wake up first and foremost why is it no talks about this young lady’s volient past, why is it no talks of the abuse this young man was rec’v before this incident from this young lady. None of it is right and i’m not making excuse for either one but it is just sick how this country is attempting to lynch this young man instead of looking at him as a “young man” that made a mistake trust and believe no one can keep that side of them quiet and if he was this type of young man then it would have come out before he even met her, but it has not. everyone needs to stop allows talking as if they want this young man to kill his self, they need instead to talk to both kids, no they should not be together in a relationship, but as adults, the diane swayers, oprahs, 20/20, even larry king and all the media outlets should take some responsiblity that they claim they have and have both kids on there shows, being interviewed and speak openly about all of this. like i said when his dancers put a video out about her being abusive no one jumped on that report. IT WILL BE THE FAULT OF ALL MEDIA OUTLETS IF THIS YOUNG MAN DOES NOT GET HIS CAREER BACK ON TRACK.because instead of speaking with both kids which is the right thing to do. you take one side and attempt to rape the others. I GUESS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS NOT WHAT HAPPEN BUT WHEN AND WHAT PART OF THE TRUTH IS TOLD. CHRIS YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP. OR ELSE THEY WILL RIP YOU UNTIL YOU DIE.
AGAIN THEY BOTH NEED HELP BUT THAT WOULDN’T HAPPEN UNTIL SHE KILLS SOMEONE

  7. you who pointed it out are correct that it’s unclear what Rihanna means when she says “eight or nine times.”

but “who’s the real victim?” come on.

  8. you haters only hear what u want 2 hear, all she meant is that it took her 8 or 9 times to be strong enough to leave for good,we all know men always mess up and w go back hoping our love will change the situation, i wish her well.

@Charles and Shoni, Why are you guys ‘excusing’ chris brown in all of this? regardless of whether or not Rihanna may have hit or taunted him first, does this mean she deserved to be beaten up like that? maybe she was trying to defend herself? Did you not see the pictures? Is it not clear who was the stronger of the 2 if indeed she hit him first? Did she deserve to be beat down black and blue like that? He could have KILLED “her” if one of those punches went the wrong way. What would you be saying then? Puh-leeze! He’s an animal and deserves to be in permanent rehab. Especially since he hasn’t been remorseful and instead has been trying to explain away or justify his actions. That’s the second pathetic part to all of this. I’ve been a victim of physical abuse like this and definitely can relate to what Rihanna went through. My ex also did like Chris Brown and tried to lie, lighten up and explain away what he did. Such people deserve NO COMPASSION. The boyfriend or fiancee that beats you is the husband that will likely kill you.

    Nuff said.

@The comment above…I still find it disturbing that Rihanna is playin all innocent especially when she had admitted before that she busted her own brother in the face with a glass bottle…smh.

Chris move on brother..this broad is in it for the wrong reasons…she was all playin dress up strollin the streets smilin gigglin and bar hoppin…nooooow that CHRIS is releasin an album and she is as well its time to play “woe is Rihanna”..BS!!!!!!

Ummm what happened with RiRi and her brother has nothing to do with what happened between her and Chris. We do not have the whole story of their relationship. But common sense should tell you that Chris had to be the guilty one if he stated that he had apologized to her several times..y would u if u weren’t guilty? And Rihanna seems very angry like alot of women do after they have been abused.I know..I’ve been there.

  12. WTF

Someone posted SO WHAT IF SHE HIT HIM FIRST??? WTF?? I have a 11 Year old daughter and one of the main things I will teach her is to never put your hands on a man!!! like the reader said common sense, she is not going to beat CB up why try all she did is provoke him.

How many times does a women have to keep physically hitting a person before he loses IT? I tell my daughter if a man hits you come get me or your 2 brothers we will all kick his a** not you.

If you hit this man first he should not hit her back walk away I have been in situations where it got physical and walked away when prevoked. What you think they were in the car all quite she saw the text messages and then he just punched her in face? for nothing? once again I dont agree with his actions I simply feel theres more to this story.

Like another reader mentioned she has been seen all over enjoying her life with different men all of a sudden I must speak out for all little girls and show them I am a good role model, sure hope she remember this when everything cools down.
