Barack Obama Also Seems To Think Kanye West Is a "Jackass"

Supposedly, President Obama called Kanye West a “jackass” in an off-the-record segment of a CNBC interview.  This news came via a tweet, quickly removed, from ABC Nightline anchor Terry Moran’s feed:

“Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a ‘jackass’ for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT’S presidential.”

Sure, I doubt Reagan opined on the VMAs, but to suggest that Obama shouldn’t ever know or think about breaking pop culture stuff is unreasonable.  It’s impossible to suspend yourself in the stratosphere of Matters of State and Important Geopolitical Considerations anymore, because wherever you try to run off and have such fancy thoughts, pop culture’s gonna find you.  Obama reads the news.  Have you seen what the news looks like in 2009?

So maybe it still feels inappropriate that a commander-in-chief should deign to think about the VMAs (as Detroit crumbles all around us!) for the 1.5 seconds it took anyone to realize Kanye West was being a jackass, but that’s changing.  Audio clip, after the jump.  

Here’s the clip of Obama.  Here’s hoping Kanye will finally try to keep this noise in check or at least pull something more entertaining in the future.  Tough day for him, to say the least.  Also, here was ABC’s statement:

“In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again.”

No worries, that’ll be the last time Obama ever shoots the breeze with Terry Moran.
