The Dark Side of Infomercials
Infomercials pitch you products you didn’t know you needed by bringing your attention to problems you didn’t know you had: is your vacuum too loud? Is your soap always slipping out of your hands? Do you always hurt yourself while trying to use your cell phone? Then you need this, that, and the other!
The “before” situation (e.g. before you bought the quieter vacuum or softer cell phone) is always shown in black and white, a reflection of the dim and benighted existence you led before you bought a thing that cuts up carrots slightly better than other things. Everything Is Terrible! has put together “Infomercial Hell,” a brilliant montage of bad-times “before” clips. You’ve never seen so many people slipping, dropping things, and grimacing in an exaggerated way all in one place before.

While technically not an infomercial, I would’ve ended with LifeCall’s famed “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”
Granny wrestling with Death on the livingroom floor puts a smile on my face every time!
Oh god! Not LIVING dust mites!
Luckily they’re not the undead variety, OHHHH THE HORRA!
