Pole Dancers Take Over New York To Promote Upcoming "Pole Superstar" Competition

it's like the popemobile of pole dancing

Pole Superstar: The Ultimate Pole Dance Competition is coming to a New York City near you this October!  To advertise the event, the organizers have sent guerilla strippers out into the streets to dance around poles where you least expect it.  Sort of like a flash mob, but with less “mob” and more “flash” (you get it).  Also not really that much like a flash mob.  The competition puts “six of America’s most skillful and sensuous pole dancers” on the stage:

The performers will showcase their impressive pole dance abilities in front of a celebrity panel of judges, who will comment on the performances. Meanwhile, the Pole Superstar winner will be chosen by the audience, who will vote via text message with the results announced at the end of the program. This year’s winner will go home with $10,000 cash, a limited edition Jacob and Co. diamond necklace and more!

Pictures and video of ladies pole dancing here, there, everywhere, including on a special bicycle fitted with a stripper pole.  ATJ:

First, though, a thought: this show is not on TV.  It very easily could be on TV and clearly is formatted such that it would neatly fit into a two-hour TV special.  Clearly, the organizers are putting a pretty hard So You Think You Can Dance meets So You Think You Want To Go To Scores But Don’t Want To Spend All That Money spin on it, judging by the website, and I’m sure they’re like, yo Fox Network, this would a great fit for you (true).

However.  Because it is not on TV, I just don’t see the need for “celebrity” judges.  It’s not like American Idol or Project Runway in which you need (I guess) someone “qualified” in the field to judge the contestants and be famous or whatever on TV.  I can judge pole dancing exactly as well as Cris Judd (remember Cris Judd – J. Lo’s Kevin Federline from like 2001?).  Here is how you judge pole dancing, ready?  There is no such thing as being bad at pole dancing.  If you are an attractive woman dancing on a pole, you are automatically good at pole dancing.  You get an “A” just for showing up at the pole.  Good job, and thank you for pole dancing.  I don’t see why Cris Judd gets to go to this for free and celebrity-judge it while everyone else has to pay $75.

The video is basically SFW, unless you work at a place where they don’t want you watching videos of girls pole dancing.
