The Michael Phelps of Drunk-Driving Racks Up 22nd DWI

my other car is a... wait, where am i?

A 51-year-old New Mexico man blew a 0.393 BAC, which is about 5 times the legal limit, when he was collected by local police on Monday.

Unfortunately for him,

Police said records showed the man has been arrested five times in New Mexico and at least 16 times elsewhere.

Garcia said records showed the man faces pending DWI charges in Angel Fire and Espanola. He also was served with arrest warrants from San Miguel, Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties — all on DWI-related charges.

New Mexico is known for its strict “22 Strikes Law” regarding DWIs, which mandates that anyone caught driving over the limit 22 times faces some – any – sort of punishment.  But the question is, was the man even driving?…

State Police Lt. Eric Garcia said an officer pulled up to a car parked along a highway and found a 51-year-old man on the ground near his vehicle.

Why, that’s not drunk-driving!  That’s drunk-falling-out-of-your-car-while-trying-to-drive-it.  Better let him off with a warning again and just tell him to drive it off!

I’m not judge or D.A. or anything, but the “I swear I’ll stop doing it this time” defense is only supposed to work like 20 times, right?  I mean what are these authorities thinking?  ”Wow, you really let us down here, George.  After your 21st DWI, we really thought you had learned your lesson.”

  1. The first thing I tell potential clients is to get help. There is no point in fighting a DWI if you are going to turn around and get another one.
