Video: F/A-18 Hornet Fighter Jet – Built in Four Minutes

my other car is an f/a-18 super hornet

The consensus on fighter jets is: rad.  Partly in spite of the fact that they cost Carnival-cruises-style boatloads of money and whatever the equivalent of that is in time, to build.  Partly because of that.  With President Obama‘s new defense budget, it isn’t completely clear how the production of rad fighter jets will be affected – probably negatively, for now, though it seems to vary from model to model – but rad fighter jets will always remain a cherished part of our (male) children’s fascination with rad war machines.

After the jump, a video that shows the sum contruction of an F/A-18 Super Hornet strike fighter, zoomed up and condensed into under 4 minutes.  It’s quite a show:

I wasn’t watching too closely, but I didn’t see them put any engines in the plane…  Anyone else notice this?

Also, be sure to enjoy the techno soundtrack, which must have been ripped straight off a PowerPoint presentation titled “The Future Is Limitless!” or some such thing.

At 3:04 you can see the engines being mounted. Great video!

    That was awesome.

i see them putting the nozzle on, but since the engine is built separately from the plane by a different company at a different facility, shouldn’t it be mounted into the fuselage at some point? perhaps they just didn’t film that part, or the plane is a mock-up.

Australia, the next generation of air power? That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard!
