Welsh Woman Gets $33K Grant to Make Beautiful Art From People’s Butts

Welsh artist Sue Williams was damn tired of the way people don’t take @sses seriously.  So she applied for, and received, a grant of 20,000 pounds (about $33,000 US) from the Welsh government to make art from @sses.  Williams had been working in Africa, but her pieces kept getting censored by governments there.

“There, the bottom is treated with respect, whereas over here in the West it’s treated as trivial, sensational and sexual.”

Hmm, so she’s complaining about Western attitudes when her @ss-art was censored in Africa and heavily funded in Wales?  I mean, the government itself more or less told her, “Here, have a ton of money.  Don’t care how you spend it, so long as it’s on @sses!  Awesome.”  Here’s what she’s making:

Sue makes plaster casts of her own and other women’s bottoms.

Some members of the Welsh Parliament naturally questioned the public funding for the endeavor, but Williams assured them that there would be no dudes allowed in the @ss-casting studio and agreed completely that no one would want to see that sh*t.

I’m all for arts endowment, but didn’t some ambitious lass manage to self-fund a project like this in the ’60s?  Except instead of her own butt, it was casts of Jimi Hendrix’s penis?

Here are some of Williams’s other visual works, some of them maybe NSFW: Artnet.
