It’s Not Really Clear Where Michael Jackson’s Kids Came From

If you haven’t been following over on TMZ, various sources are attesting to just how much of a reproductive clusterf*ck the Michael Jackson paternity/custody issue is.

We’ve learned Michael Jackson was not the biological father of any of his children. And Debbie Rowe is not the biological mother of the two kids she bore for Michael. All three children were conceived in vitro — outside the womb.

Rowe was the surrogate mother, but the eggs were not hers.  Furthermore, MJ never even adopted the kids, so he is neither the biological or legal father of the three children once thought to be his…  

As for why Jackson didn’t formally adopt — we’re told at the time the kids were born there was no third party whom he believed would try and claim custody. For some reason, Jackson never thought Debbie Rowe would mount a custody challenge.

Katherine Jackson, the grandmother of the kids, now has temporary custody, but it isn’t clear yet whether Rowe will try to get the kids.  She has had no active role in raising them, but it’s hard to guess the fallout of a legal fight, since “this type of case has never been litigated in California courts.”  I’ll bet.

The good news is that Jackson’s son Prince Michael “Blanket” Jackson II, whose brother’s name is also Michael, is now legally free to choose a new nickname.
