Porn Star Contracts HIV; Adult Entertainment Industry Under Fire

Have you ever toyed with the idea of being a porn star? Let’s be honest here. There’s no need to fear judgment. This is a judgment-free zone. I’ll be the first to admit I’ve considered the part a time or two. After all, who wouldn’t want to get paid to have sex?

Social stigmas aside, being a porn star might be an even cooler job that being a crew member for Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. Chances are, however, the Paul Rudd’s and Brad Pitt’s of the world wouldn’t be my co-stars. Nope. Instead you’ve got lookers like Ron Jeremy and his Loch Ness Monster to bury you.

And if that isn’t bad enough, here’s something else to consider: The Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation recently announced that an adult actress in the Southern California’s pornography business just tested positive for HIV. And while religious and conservative types alike might use this opportunity to bash the adult entertainment industry, it should be noted that this is the first outbreak since 2004. The adult actress’ partners have been tested and came up negative.

Still, Dr. Jonathan Fielding, health officer for Los Angeles County, announced his office would be launching an investigation.

“You wouldn’t send someone to work on a high-rise building without a hard-hat, so why are we allowing these performers to perform without condoms?” said Fielding. He added, “Let’s say you were infected on Monday, tested on Wednesday and perform on Friday. You would show up as negative, but you’re not negative.”

Not that I know people left and right who’ve tested positive for HIV, but I must say, one person in five years is pretty damn incredible when you consider the industry and how often the adult actors have sex. While I may understand Dr. Fielding’s concerns, the idea of it making it mandatory for adult performers to wear a condom seems utterly absurd, if you ask me.

I say that partly for selfish reasons (Who wants to flick their bean to a dude plowing a lady with a condom on?), and partly because it’s just a little to Big Brother if you ask me. That’s their industry, they know what they’re doing, and aside from this incident, the adult film industry seems to have their sh!t together in that regard.

I’d much rather Dr. Fielding and the likes to spend their time teaching the youth and young adults of America the importance of protected sex, frequent HIV and STD testing, but most of all, confidence. Yes, confidence. Maybe then high school girls would realize that letting your boyfriend f^ck you in the ass (instead of their vag) does not constitute them as virgins– despite whatever MTV’s quality program might have them believe. Yes, MTV. I blame it all on MTV.

i think the porn industry is safer and less likely the get an STD or HIV than anybody in the regular real world having casual sex…….i wish the chicks around my way were as safe as the porn stars yo!

  2. what these reports fail to realize is that girl that contracted HIV is actually a part time prostitute (albeit a high end call girl) who sells GFE (Girl Friend Experience aka RAW SEX) to her johns. This is probably how she contracted HIV. I KNOW THIS AS FACT.

The porn industry and the performers are very cautious when it comes to testing and rarely slip up.

Um, which one is it? “Probably” or “fact”…or are you just jawsing? Just saying…

Plenty of these pornochicks ho at NV brothels, but then NV also has health standards. Might be extracurricular ho’ing (GFE like Guy says or similar), or out-of-country work (last AIDS pornscare came from Brazil, if memory serves), or the NV or pornlabs had this fall through the cracks.

Fixed: The porn industry and the performers CAN SEEM cautious when it comes to testing BUT HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO slip up.

All it takes is one, so trust in Jehovah but still tie up your horse, if you know what I mean.

Your stats are not correct. 22 stars have tested + for HIV in the last 5 years. This doesn’t count the ones who have tested positive for other diseases. 66% have herpes and many more have other conditions. No one is safe in the industry. Please consider really researching this…it is not a safe and healthy lifestyle and most of the porn “talent” (90% by all reports) are high or drunk. I work in a clinic for porn stars and they are not happy people. It looks glamorous, but there are douche bags and rags with blood and feces and other fluids in the corner. Many times their organs prolapse and most have no rectal control by the time they are 30. It is routine for defacation to end up all around the set. Please understand IT IS NOT HOW IT LOOKS.

I think you’re a big fucking idiot, and your opinion has been spoken like a true fucking Neggie.

If you went into a sushi restaurant, and the waitress said, “We have Freshwater Salmon Sushi, but it’s been sitting out all day and our chef was picking his nose when he made it,” you’d want the Health Department of the Government to give them a violation or shut them down, right? You wouldn’t want that restaurant open any more and you’d get up and leave.

That’s why there is OSHA…to protect the employees AND the customers.
