Spencer and Heidi Leave “I’m a Celebrity,” Our Dreams in Ruins
June 2nd, 2009

Did you see last night’s episode of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!? It was sad yet beautiful, like a painting made by a retarded elephant, or a one-legged homeless person trying to dance, or a prayer circle with Spencer Pratt and Heidi Pratt and Rod Blagojevich’s wife, heads bowed in shared cultural martyrdom. The last of which did, in fact, happen on the show. It really was a perfect sequence, the bad, tacky clowns of TV, magazines, internet, and politics, tied to the whipping post of American popular opinion together, hands held, eyes weepy, praying that the Lord give them strength in the wilderness.
Spencer, out of the blue, says, “So let’s address the elephant in the room, Patti [Blago]. What exactly did your husband do?” (Though there are neither elephants nor rooms in the Costa Rican jungle.)
“Something something, it was all a misunderstanding!” protests Mrs. Rod.
“Do you know something, Patti?” Spencer is somber yet gentle. ”I think you and Rod are the Heidi and Spencer of American politics. I would have voted for your husband… for president.”
So it saddens me to have to tell you that Spencer and Heidi, TMZ reports, have made good on their threat to leave the show…
A source close to production tells TMZ the “Hills” duo walked off the set for good after the live portion of last night’s show. It is unclear how the show will handle their leaving on tonight’s episode.
Seasons change, things fall apart, the stars burn brightest right before they burn out. Life goes on, long after the thrill of Spencer and Heidi is gone.
