Eminem/Bruno Butt Rendezvous: Insiders Say Real or Fake?
You’ll remember from yesterday the stunt pulled by Sacha Baron Cohen‘s Bruno character at the MTV Movie Awards: he was lowered from the ceiling on wires, wearing angel wings and a jock strap, “accidentally” into the 69 position over Eminem‘s face.
Em and his posse stormed out, but it seemed that there were cameras and microphones suspiciously handy for the whole dalliance: Bruno wore one, of course, but it sounded as if Eminem did as well. And a few cameramen just happened to be standing around in the theater exit as Eminem walked out. Could Eminem see it coming in the air that night? Entertainment Weekly spoke with some industry sources and confirmed…
…It was all a pack of lies! (Duh dum chuh dum chuh dum duh dum dum DUM.)
Sources close to MTV and Sacha Baron Cohen tell EW that the infamous stunt on the show between Eminem and the Bruno star was staged, with Eminem’s consent and participation.
They also quote the blog of comedian Scott Aukerman, head writer of the awards show.
Meanwhile, comedy writer Scott Aukerman, who says he was the head comedy writer for the awards show, also claims on his blog that “the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged,” explaining “they rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show.”
Aukerman seems quick enough on his blog to disclose the mechanisms by which the show’s jokes came about – he twitters about “some jokes that we never ended up using” – but you’ll notice that his post about the Bruno butt liaison has been removed since EW linked to it last night. Probably an MTV policy to keep people guessing, and thus keep people talking about the MTV Movie Awards and about Eminem and about Bruno (both of whom have a lot of cards on the table this summer), several days after we would have otherwise forgotten about it all.
Neither Eminem nor Cohen has commented, though Paris Hilton does not think the shenanigans were staged, and Paris Hilton knows staged.
Here’s the clip again. What do you think?
