Chinese Theme Park About F*cking, We Hardly Knew Ye
“Love Land” was a theme park that had it all: a history of sex exhibition, a sex improvement workshop, a giant sculpture of a woman’s body from the waist down, a giant replica of a vagina, a giant replica of a penis… Actually, from the descriptions, so far it sounds less like a “theme park” in the American sense and more like a bunch of private parts done up big. It was slated to open in October in Chongqing, but over the weekend, news of it began to appear in international media, and the Chinese government got embarrassed because now the entire world thinks that Chinese people like sex. And today, they shut that park right down. Really, China? There are like 1.6 billion of you – you’re not fooling anyone here.
Lu Xiaoqing, the park manager, had already busied himself defending his beloved f*ck park against allegations that it was vulgar:
“We are building the park for the good of the public. I have found that the majority of people support my idea, but I have to pay attention and not make the park look vulgar and nasty.”
But Liu Daiwei, a female police officer in Chongqing, complained: “These things are too exposed. I will feel uncomfortable looking at them when other people are around.”
A commenter on the popular Sina website said Chinese people did not treat sex as boldly as foreigners, adding: “These vulgar sex installations will only make people sick.”
And the authorities have agreed:
Authorities called the future park vulgar, misleading and indicative of a sick mind.
This move will only force people to go around exposing themselves at regular theme parks instead.
