Manny Ramirez Sure Is Sorry About All Those Steroids

Manny’s been suspended without pay for 50 games for testing positive for steroids. How much pay? 31% of his salary, which comes to about $7.7 million. Though A-Rod admitted to steroid use, Manny is the biggest star player to actually be suspended for it. He issued a hilarious backhanded half-apology:
“Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue [which was that I was out of steroids]. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me [because all the other MLB players were also taking it]. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy [because it was a steroid]. Under the policy, that mistake is now my responsibility [since I was the one taking steroids].
He went on:
“I want to apologize to Mr. McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, Mr. Torre, my teammates [who are also on steroids but did not get caught], the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed [though not surprised at all]. So am I. I’m sorry about this whole [me-taking-a-ton-of-steroids] situation.”
The Dodgers will miss him dearly between now and his July 3rd return.
