WTF?! One Man Was Charged $28,067 To Watch The Bears Win

We hope the Chicago Bears game was good, cause that's going to cost you $28,000 to watch.

Next time you want to watch a sporting event you better make sure where you are hooking up your wifi, before you end up with a $28,000 phone bill like Wayne Burdick.  All he wanted to do was catch the Bears game while waiting to board a cruise ship in Florida.

To hear what went wrong and how to avoid it keep reading after the jump>>>

While Burdick was waiting to board his cruise ship, he decided to tune into the Bears game by using his Slingbox account that he set up.  Then he slid his AT&T wireless card into his laptop and enjoyed his downtime by watching the Bears win.

Since he had an unlimited data account Burdick never thought he would incur any extraneous fees.  And he wouldn’t have if he hadn’t hooked his computer up to the ship’s wi-fi account, and incurred an international roaming charge.  It turns out that AT&T considers anything in the water “international” regardless if the ship was docked.

Well, $28,000 later and a bunch of pleas to the media, Burdick was finally vindicated and AT&T knocked the charge down to $220, which is still pretty high, but I guess a lot better than a $28,000 raping he initially sustained.
