Douchebag of the Day: Miley Cyrus (Because She May Or May Not Be Racist, But Either Way is Still a Giant Douche.)

miley cyrus asian photo controversy

Yeah, right! Miley Cyrus isn’t really sorry!

The popular Disney bad girl was criticized by an Asian Pacific American organization earlier this week after the above photo surfaced of the 16-year-old and her friends slanting their eyes for the camera.)

Via People Magazine:

The OCA, an organization dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the U.S., slammed Cyrus for the photo, saying, it “is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans.”

But while some say she was mocking Asians with the pose, 16-year-old Cyrus denies any offense.

“I’ve also been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context!” Cyrus says on her official Web site. “In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity!”

A part of me would like to believe there was no racism behind this photo, but I wasn’t there so balls if I know. One thing I can say is that regardless of the circumstances surrounding this photo, I think America has become to PC and people sometimes take things to seriously.

Although, at the same time, I don’t know how I’d feel about a bunch of rich, white kids padding their asses with pillows and calling themselves Puerto Rican. Again, it depends on context. Somehow I feel like if Jonah Hill or Seth Rogen did it I’d be laughing my ass off. On the other hand, if J. Lo or Miley Cyrus did it, I’d probably want to pelt them with KY and bologne. (No, I don’t have issues at all.)

What do you guys think of this Miley Cyrus controversy?

Aren’t you the one who became offended when someone called you white, and then posted pictures (very nice pics, btw) of yourself to prove you aren’t white? It seemed like you were pretty pissed that someone called you white.

Anyway, I think what those kids are doing is insensitive at the very least.

  2. lol. No, I wasn’t offended that someone called me white or fat. I was annoyed by the idea that someone assumed they knew me so well that they went out of their way to e-mail me and say those things when in fact 100% of everything they said was not true, and then didn’t even have the balls to put an e-mail so I could respond if I’d wanted to.

He could have called me a slut or a whore and I probably would have answered, “Waiiiit, Jimmy, is that you from freshman year statistics at FSU?!” because I’ve definitely slept with my fair share of men, whether or not I’d like to admit it it’s still true. But a “fraud”, “fat” and “white” I am not.

I will agree that what Miley did was insensitive to say the least. I don’t know that I’d call her a racist though. I think she still has a lot of growing up to do and her parents don’t seem to be in her life as much as I think parents should. It’s hard to scold the kid who pays the bills, you know?

All I could remember was that someone called you white and that posted pics of yourself. I should have re-read that post before commenting, sorry.

I wouldn’t call her a racist because of this pic, but I think she should be criticized for demonstrating a lack of respect, at least until she acknowledges that she used poor judgment.

And yeah, her parents don’t seem to be concerned with her actions as long as she’s bringing in money.

I think calling Miley racist would be giving her too much credit. I’m thinking being racist involves alot of thought-that picture clearly shows that there was no thought going through her mind. Have we become overly sensitive in the world? perhaps. It would probably make teenage Asian girls think more about the depth of their ‘hero’ Miley.
ps: I think Melysa ROCKS!This is one of my favourite ’sites,I come here every day-no pun intended :)

  5. Not a Racist

Is it worth mentioning that there is an Asian immediately to her right in the photo? Must everything be an international incident?

  6. college

i am asian and maybe the fact that i’m not that insulted by this picture shows that i’m too americanized or don’t have enough respect for my culture. things like this happen so much and to all different races that it shouldn’t even be suprising..

  7. asian person

i’m asian. the ones who are just squinting their eyes don’t offend me. the ones with hands stretching their eyes are kind of overdoing it. this is not nearly as offensive as when the spanish national basketball team did it during the beijing olympics.. in china.

How do you know she isn’t really sorry? You have no right making such statements about people you don’t even know. Wake the fuck up
