Rock Out with Your Sock Out: Ghostland Observatory

If somebody had asked me what bands were hot five years ago, I would have pulled out a paper and written down an endless list of names, classified by genre and subgenres, my heart gushing over my faves.

The truth is I’m not as ahead of the game as I once was, which is fine by me, except the truth is that I’m starting to get bored with my music collection.  Everyday I pretty much listen to the same thing.

I start out with a little Mozart, followed by some Miles Davis to get the brain waves flowing, then some ABBA to pump up the blood, before I finally find myself jamming out to some Vampire Weekend, N.E.R.D, Lily Allen, Animal Collective, and Death From Above 1979 mix. And as much as I love all those performers, the truth is I’m sick of listening to them day in and day out.

Thank God for a friend of mine who recently introduced me to this Austin-native band called Ghostland Observatory.  A mild, less jagged style than electroclash, this band is slowly getting more attention from the mainstream.

If rock music tickles your fancy, and you aren’t afraid of boogie-ing down to some electro-synths, then be sure check them out. To put it mildly, the band themselves describe their sound as “a robot making love to a tree.” Now that’s something to get your imagination going!

Check out the video for Ghostland Observatory’s “Sad Sad City.”

You weren’t kidding about boogie-ing down! Cool! It made me think electro-retro.
