La Lopez Defends Church of Scientology

During a recent interview with Jennifer Lopez, the actress stood up for Scientology, a religion practiced by many of her friends.  Her father is also a practicing Scientologist for more than 20 years.

“I do know a lot about Scientology. And I know about the practices. I know all about what the technology is and all that kind of stuff. It’s very helpful. So in a sense, yeah, you do call on it.”

“Do you consider yourself a Scientologist?”

“No…I wouldn’t have a problem saying [I was] because I know what it is. I have no problems with it and it really actually bothers me that people have such a negative feeling towards it.”

“That it is too exotic? Too cultish?”

“Just negative feelings.”

¡Ay Dios mio! A Puerto Rican Scientologist sounds like such a paradox.  As one would imagine, us Ricans really dig our Catholicism and our rosary beads.  My aunts go to church every day, sometimes twice.

It’s true that I myself am not a practicing Catholic, and consider myself to be agnostic, but that’s not nearly as offensive as what J. Lo’s father practices.

If Ricans get upset about another Rican dating a gringo(a), imagine how they would feel about a man who abandons the word of God for a church founded on the principles of a science fiction writer.

Here’s Jenny from the block at Elle Magazine’s 15th Annual Women in Hollywood Event in Beverly Hills, California earlier this week.
