Titled “Siren,” this 50k gold statue of a contorted Kate Moss, scheduled to be unveiled later on this week at the British Museum, is valued at $3.36 million dollars , one blowjob, two used condoms and a gram of cocaine.
Of his creation, artist Marc Quinn says:
Quinn, whose most famous work was Alison Lapper Pregnant, has said of using Moss as a subject: “I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who’s the ideal beauty of the moment. But even Kate Moss doesn’t live up to the image.”
“The sculpture is really about whether we make images or they make us. It’s about trying to live up to impossible dreams and immortality.”
“Why should gold be worth lots and steel not?” he said. “It’s because we have agreed it represents something special in our society.”
This artist needs to quit doing drugs seeing as how they’re clearly affecting his judgment. Kate Moss is not the ideal beauty of the moment. Salma Hayek, on the other hand, represents everything that is beautiful yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
